In a world where higher education is increasingly internationalised, questions of language use and multilingualism are central to the ways that universities function in teaching, research and administration. Contemporary universities find themselves in complex linguistic environments that may national level language policies, local linguistic diversity, an internationalised student body, increasing international collaboration in research, increased demand for the use and learning of international languages, especially English. This presentation will analyse how universities are responding to complexities of linguistic diversity. It will examine the ways that universities’ language policies respond to linguistic diversity in various aspects of universities work, including teaching, research and administration and the tensions involved in language choices between monolingual and multilingual practices.
報告人簡介：
Anthony J. Liddicoat is Professor in the Centre for Applied Linguistics at the University of Warwick and Adjunct Professor in the School of Creative Industries at the University of South Australia. His research interests include issues relating to the teaching and learning of intercultural capabilities in language education and language policy and planning. He is currently co-convenor of the AILA Research Network Intercultural mediation in language and culture teaching and learning/La médiation interculturelle en didactique des langues et des cultures and Executive Editor of Current Issues in Language Planning.
